Island Coastal Aviation (ICA) provides structured academic support and program-progression oversight as an integral component of its student services. Minimum of 15 instructional hours per week is required in order to be considered as full-time student. This framework ensures consistency in program delivery and ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
The Stdudent Administration Officer (SAO) is responsible for monitoring student progression and providing academic advising throughout the program. Core services include:
Clarifying program requirements, milestones, and expected completion timelines
Reviewing student training records, flight hour logs, and academic progress
Assisting with academic planning and training adjustments arising from operational factors such as weather or scheduling constraints
Identifying and referring students to additional learning support or remedial resources when necessary
The SAO works collaboratively with flight instructors, flight dispatchers, and maintenance staff to track progress and ensure students remain aligned with approved program objectives and milestones. These services are provided continuously throughout the program and are included as part of standard tuition, with no additional fees.
Student Support Services
At Island Coastal Aviation (ICA), we recognize that students come from diverse educational backgrounds and may require different levels of support throughout their training. To help students meet academic expectations and succeed with confidence, ICA offers a range of Learning Support Services.
These services reinforce classroom learning, support exam preparation (including Transport Canada exams), and provide guidance with study skills as needed at any stage of the program.
Support is coordinated through the SAO, which works closely with instructors and student services to ensure timely and practical assistance. Our goal is to help every student build the knowledge, skills, and confidence required for success in training and in their aviation careers.
Guided Study Time (15 Hours/Week)
Flexible, drop-in sessions supported by instructors and academic staff. International students are required to be on campus a minimum of 15 hours per week. These study sessions have proven especially valuable since being introduced in early 2025, with noticeable improvements in student performance.
Learning Workshops
Regularly scheduled sessions focused on essential aviation topics such as navigation, meteorology, and Transport Canada exam preparation.
Real-Time Attendance Tracking
Monitored through our on-campus electronic sign-in kiosk, which helps support attendance compliance and academic engagement.
Program Progression Monitoring
Ongoing review of each student’s training milestones, with individualized support plans offered when challenges arise.
